![]() ![]() During the experiments, the inventor, putting one of the elements of the installation to his ear, heard the scream of a patient who was in another room. Meucci was asked to conduct tests on the use of electricity in the treatment of rheumatism, which was related to the then-popular work of Franz Mesmer. On the other hand, his most important invention was made by accident. He not only developed curtain and ventilation systems in the theatre, but also participated in a water treatment project for the Cuban capital, worked in electroplating, and even worked on chemical preservation of corpses. ![]() In the end, Meucci spent not 5 but 15 years in Havana, during which he made a considerable fortune and fame. ![]() Given the growing political tension and his experience with the justice system, the Italian inventor and his wife agreed to the proposal. In the mid-1830s, Meucci was offered a 5-year contract at the Teatro Tacón in Cuba. Meucci constructed a system based on air-filled tubes, thanks to which the stage staff could communicate with each other quickly and unnoticed by the audience. There, for the first time, he developed his first remote communication device. It was there that the Italian inventor met his future wife, but also had the opportunity to develop his talents by working on set design, visual effects, and the use of special effects. After the last verdict, Meucci sought work in theatres, including the Teatro Della Pergola, which was a base and meeting place for revolutionaries belonging to the Carbonari. He was later arrested several more times, including for his activities in the Carbonari society, most likely linked to the French Freemasons or the Italian Illuminati. As a result of an accident involving pyrotechnics, he was imprisoned for the first time. First, he worked as an assistant gatekeeper, then, thanks to his knowledge of chemistry, he also became involved in the organisation of the celebrations of the birthday of the Princess Marie Anna of Saxony, Grand Duchess of Tuscany. After two years, unfortunately, he had to abandon his full-time studies and start working due to financial problems. At the age of 13, he was admitted to the Florence Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied chemistry and mechanics. Antonio Meucci was born on 13 April 1808 in Florence. ![]()
